Students at engineering universities across the country today enforced a “complete shutdown” in protest against police action during yesterday’s demonstration and to press home their three-point demand. The move was announced late last night by the platform Prokousholi Odhikar Andolon, which said all institutions including Buet, Cuet and other engineering universities would observe the shutdown. At Buet, which remains closed on Thursdays as part of its weekly holiday, students said they announced boycot of the scheduled exams in support of the programme. Several Buet departments found empty at 10:00am, reports our photojournalist.
Meanwhile, the university authorities, in a notice published on its website yesterday, announced postponement of all undergraduate examinations across different levels and terms. “Considering the prevailing situation, all undergraduate examinations scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 18 have been postponed,” said the emergency notice, signed by Buet Registrar Prof Dr NM Golam Zakaria. The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) also witnessed a total boycott of classes and examinations, leaving the campus deserted, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
